This statue head of Conrad Noel sits in Thaxted Parish Church. Noel, a colourful character, was known as the 'red vicar' due to his work with the Christian Socialist Movement. His wife Miriam instigated the invitation to Mary to bring an Espérance girl to Thaxted to teach children and young people in the town. The girl who undertook this teaching in January 1911 was Blanche Payling.
