Stanley Godman attended the Jubilee Festival at The Cecil Sharp House in 1961. He wrote for the West Sussex Gazette. His editor, J.R.Worsley, had known Mary Neal well since she was a familiar figure around Littlehampton and the South Coast. The handwritten note added to the article reads:
"Pipe Passage, Lewes, Sussex
Dear Miss Knowles, I thought you might care to have this, inadequate though it is as a tribute to Miss Neal (whom the Editor of this paper knew well in Littlehampton when he was a young man)"
