MN comes back up to London…

At last I got desperate at finding I was making no progress towards health, but apparently was coughing myself into my grave, so I wrote to London to Mr. Howard Barrett, the doctor who had sent me away, and told him I had decided that I was for “a short life and a merry one”, that I did not care if I did die, anything was better than the life at Bournemouth, and that better a month of work in London than twenty years in a bath chair, pine trees, sea and all thrown in. ….That life has been often a very “merry one” but is has not been short and I came back to what proved to be the beginning of many happy years of health and work.
